Dentures and Insurance Coverage: What You Need to Know

At Postings Denture Clinics, we strive to make the process of getting dentures in Victoria as convenient as possible by offering free initial consultations. That way, you'll have a good idea of your potential treatment options and the costs associated with them, allowing you to plan for your insurance coverage. We also provide a complete array of denture services at our two clinic locations in Victoria and Sidney.

1. Am I Covered?

British Columbia's provincial Medical Services Plan does not provide coverage for any dental health services except for dental and oral surgery. Some people have dental and denture coverage through an employee benefit plan or through a private individual insurance plan. It is very important to be aware of whether you have insurance coverage for denture care in Victoria or Sidney and to understand what exactly your plan covers.

British Columbia residents who receive disability assistance, income assistance, or hardship assistance may be eligible for denture coverage if they meet certain criteria. Our offices are happy to check this for you – all we need is your Personal Health Number!

2. How Much Will I Have to Pay Out-Of-Pocket?

The amount that you will personally need to pay for dentures in Victoria will depend on whether or not you have extended coverage through an insurance provider, and what percentage of treatment your plan covers. Most standard dental insurance plans in British Columbia cover about 50% of dentures, but this number can vary between plans. The amount that you need to pay out-of-pocket is called a co-payment. So, for a plan that covers 50% of the cost of dentures, you will need to pay the other 50%.

You can find out if your insurance will cover a specific treatment by asking our office to submit a pre-determination to your insurance plan provider. A pre-determination outlines what the proposed treatment is and how much it will cost. Though it is an estimate only, it will give you an important idea of what you can expect and how to budget for treatment.

3. Will My Denturist Create a Treatment Plan According to My Coverage?

The denture services offered by your denturist will be tailored to your unique needs, not to what your insurance plan will cover. Your denturist can certainly help you understand your coverage and provide you with recommendations based on your coverage, but their main priority is to provide you with the best solution for your dental health.

Your insurance plan is, unfortunately, not customized to your needs and may not cover certain treatments. This is why it is important to be aware of all of the details of your plan as you start looking into dentures.
