DENTURE LINING
DENTURE RELINING IN VICTORIA, SIDNEY, LANGFORD AND SURROUNDING AREAS
Dentures are prosthetic teeth placed in a mouth to cover missing teeth and restore your mouth’s function. While dentures are customized to fit your mouth and are an incredibly durable substitute for natural teeth, your jawbone and gums will resorb and shrink over time. It causes your dentures to become loose. A reline or rebase may be necessary to ensure optimal functionality, fit and appearance.

QUALITY DENTURE LINING TREATMENT
The following denture treatments are used at Postings Denture Clinics to improve the fit and comfort of an older denture that doesn’t require replacement:
Relines
Denture relines involve adding a new base material to the tissue side of a denture to make sure it fits you perfectly. Before a reline is performed on your dentures, your denturist will ensure that the bite, position, existing teeth and acrylic base of your dentures are in good condition and not worn or stained. An impression of your oral tissue is taken inside your dentures to get a working model. This model is then used to add a new layer of acrylic base material to your dentures to produce a correct fit. However, please note that relining only affects the fit of your denture. The appearance of your dentures will not change.
Possible causes of bone or tissue change requiring a reline include:
Following immediate dentures
Tooth loss
Weight loss
Bone resorption in the upper or lower jaw
Illness or disease
Rebases
Rebases may seem similar to a reline because they can help improve the fit of your dentures. However, it is different. When a rebase is performed, all the pink acrylic denture base material is replaced, essentially rebuilding the entire denture for you but using the same teeth. The existing teeth will remain in the same place.
Possible reasons you might need a rebase include:
Following immediate dentures
Modifying an existing denture to fit on implants
Broken denture
Weakened or old pink denture base
Soft Liners
A soft liner is a medical-grade soft polymer material that is permanently applied to the surface of your denture. It acts as a shock-absorbing cushion when you are chewing. Our denturists at Postings Denture Clinics can apply soft liners to new dentures, old dentures, or during relines and rebases. You may want to consider a soft liner if your denturist has meticulously adjusted the fit of your dentures and you are still unable to find comfort with your dentures. Patients with chronically sore gum tissues or gums with bony regions may also benefit from them.
Soft liners are appropriate for:
Flat (or nearly flat) gum tissues
Gums with thin tissues over bony areas
Chronically sore gum tissues
Soft liners provide increased comfort during chewing and daily wear, and clinical evidence indicates a high acceptance among patients. Based on patient home care cleaning, soft liners have an average lifespan of two to four years (depending on physiology). Don’t hesitate to call us today if you have questions about relines, rebases, or soft liners.
